Join our 10-Day workshop and Become Certified in Permaculture!
Location:
Nubes del Pital (Clouds of El Pital) is a small family farm, an eco-tourism oasis, and an experiment in regenerative agro-forestry located in the mountains of northern El Salvador. Over 12 years, we have been developing a diverse and thriving homestead and market farm that sustains our family, regenerates the landscape, and participates in the life of our local community. We have been inspired by the timeless experience and example of small, anonymous indigenous and peasant communities whose ancestral agricultural techniques and connection to their ancestral territories inspire us to follow their example and lead.
Located in the undulating mountains of Central America, our farm is divided between three distinct ecosystems:
- A temperate-climate farm located at 2,100 meters above sea level
- This temperate climate of our farm is where we raise animals, cultivate vegetables, and grow diverse fruit and nut species.
- A tropical climate food forest located at 1,100 meters above sea level
- This tropical climate part of our farm is where we are able to grow coffee, cacao, and dozens of other tropical fruits, nuts, and staple tree crops.
- A cloud forest ecosystem located at 2,300 meters above sea level
- This forest atmosphere is where we engage in different “farming the woods” strategies.
The diverse climates and ecosystems of our farm allow participants to learn how permaculture design can be implemented and applied in diverse environments and climates.

Course Design and Schedule
The workshop will be held from April 10th to the 20th, 2026. Participants will arrive in the afternoon on April 9th and leave in the morning on April 21st, giving us 10 full days of learning together. The course curriculum will be based on the Alma Oasis online permaculture design certification, with each day of the workshop roughly following one of the online course modules, which are as follows:
Day 1 – Ethics, Principles, and Reading the Landscape
Day 2 – The Process of Design
Day 3 – Soil, Where It All Begins
Day 4 – Water Conservation Techniques
Day 5 – What to Plant, Where and Why
Day 6 – Animals as a Fundamental Part of the System
Day 7 – Structures, Building and Infrastructure on the Permaculture Land
Day 8 – Urban Permaculture
Day 9 – Appropriate Technology
Day 10 – Invisible Structures
You can find a more detailed description of what to expect in our dynamic, interactive, and innovative curriculum here: https://almaoasis.com/product/permaculture-design/
Each day of the workshop will be broken down into a morning and afternoon seminar, followed by a hands-on practicum on our farm/homestead. Students will be invited to participate in the daily tasks of our homestead life. We believe that permaculture learning should include both theory and practice, and this workshop is designed for people who enjoy the experiential aspect of learning and want to get their hands (and feet) dirty in the process of discovering permaculture in practice. Some of the experiential practicum activities will include:
- Swale building and maintenance
- Irrigation systems
- Propagation techniques for a small, community nursery
- Mushroom cultivation
- Elaboration and use of composts, foliar sprays, and other soil enhancers
- Planting and harvesting fruits and vegetables
- Food forest maintenance
- Transforming harvests into value-added, marketable products (jams, fruit preserves, ferments)
- Earthen building with cob and wattle and daub
- No-till natural farming of grain crops
- Maintenance and expansion of perennial food crops
- And more
Furthermore, throughout the 10-days of the course, students will be developing their own permaculture design proposal for a neighboring small homestead. One of our neighbors is interested in learning/implementing permaculture practices on her piece of land, and the workshop will offer students a real-life opportunity to participate in the design process and help a small Salvadoran family discover unique permaculture design opportunities for their landscape.
What's Included
The course costs $1,100 and includes:
